Wednesday June 7th, 7 pm Pacific Time Zoom Meeting ID: 899 883 2615, Passcode: Beads All are welcome! As Ken says, There are many beautiful pictures and images hidden away inside numerous regular rocks and gemstones. These wonderful treasures are just waiting to be discovered. I have cut open various mundane stones, and discovered their hidden treasures. Some of these beautiful images look like an Ansel Adams photograph, and others look like a painting hanging in the Louvre. These wonderful images include: faces, animals, people, plants/flowers, landscapes (desert, aquatic, and outer space scenes), and much more.

The Bead Society Mother's Day Pop Up held on Saturday, May 6th was great! Lots of people attended the brightly lit Parish Hall of St. Bede's Episcopal Church in Mar Vista. One attendee remarked that it was apropos that the church's name matches the Bead Society! Vendors sold finished jewely, paintings, art, photographs, tote bags, clothing, and art objects. Some beads and findings were also available. The Bead Society Program for May is titled "My Bead Journey." It will be Wednesday, May 3rd at 7 pm Pacific Time. Our speaker is Doris Weinbaum who opened a bead store in 1993, without knowing how to bead. Doris will tell the story of her serendipitous journey from neophyte bead entrepreneur to accomplished bead artist. Her bead store is in Oak Park, Illinois. She sold it iand lives in San Clemente now. Wednesday May 3rd 7 pm Pacific Time Zoom Meeting ID: 899 883 2615, Passcode: Beads All are welcome! Business meeting at 6:30 pm PT at the same Zoom address! Doris Weinbaum has been involved with beads, both as a businesswoman and an artist/teacher since 1993. In that year Doris opened a retail bead shop in Oak Park, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. While owning and managing the shop, Doris began learning beading techniques and jewelry design from instructors in her store, books and customers. Given her breadth of experience with many other hand-crafts, including sewing, knitting and crocheting, Doris' talent for beading blossomed. Doris has had one of her original designs published and has taught a wide range of beading techniques to children and adults. The theme of the online March 1st Program Meeting is Everything Green in honor of St Patrick! St Patrick's Day, although a legal holiday only in Savannah, GA and Suffolk County, MA is nonetheless widely recognized and celebrated throughout the United States. It is primarily celebrated as a recognition of Irish and Irish American culture; celebrations include prominent displays of the color green, eating and drinking, religious observances, and numerous parades. The holiday has been celebrated in what is now the U.S since 1601. (1) So we are celebrating by highlighting green beads! Consider jade, jasper, malachite, aventurine, howlite, even tourqouise, green glass, and seed beads, etc, Whether you believe that St. Patrick banished snakes from Ireland, you can bring some snake charms to the meeting as well! This will be a Sharing Session, so bring your beads and shamrocks and be prepared to talk about Green Beads. Yvonne was a Bead Society Manager of Bead Bazaars for several years. She also served as a Secretary of the Society in 2018-19. She was one of the Bead Society's most consistent volunteers. She helped out at the Pop Ups, Bead Bazaars and at the recent Parking Lot events. She was pleasant and personable, and great to work with. Yvonne will be remembered for always matching jewelry colors to fashion items that she wore. She would make necklaces to wear with her outfits. One of my favorite necklaces that Yvonne wore is one that was a series of colorful beads that looked like marbles. Yvonne will be sorely missed by members of the Bead Society and her family. Thanks to Sylvia Humphrey, Lisa Shatts, Tim Meikle and Kay Deeney for pictures and text. The Bead Society presents the 2nd annual Black History Month presentations by local artists on February 1st. Since February is Black History Month, what better way to celebrate it than by presenting artists who bring us African American beads, jewelry and other art! The event is hosted by Sylvia Humphrey. Our presenters will demonstrate various genres of artwork, some have multiple areas. Two of our presenters participated last year and this year they are teaching our younger generation their art skills and knowledge. This can be very impactful in so many ways on a young person's life journey. We hope to see you next Wednesday, Feb 1st at 7 pm. See the slide show above for a previews of some pictures from our Artists. Eddie Stokes, Sandra Sherman Designs, and Regina Higgins-Rainmaker will be joining the panel.

Terry will show a movie on how she makes her Northern lights or Galaxy bead and how she makes her floral components. From her bio, Terry started out as a geologist and hydrologist. "I have travelled to Italy twice to take flameworking classes and appreciate the beauty and history of Italy. I have traveled to New Zealand, taught at Fenton Glass Factory in West Virginia, and have exhibited and taught in Tucson, Arizona for the last 9 years. For the past 6 years I have traveled to Canada to participate and instruct at the Molten Experience. I believe working on the edge had been the biggest factor in my ability to grow as an artist." See the pictures above and below, and prepare to be wowed! Terry will also be at the Pasadena Bead & Design Show at the Hilton Pasadena starting on January 6-8, 2023.
