June Bead Society Meeting: What I Learned during the Pandemic!

It's been an interesting year since the Bead Society stopped having in person meetings last April, 2020. We also cancelled our April and October Bazaars! What have we all learned during this time? Have you made more jewelry with the time that you had? Have you spent time organizing your collections of beads? Have you made masks? 

The June meeting, the last meeting of our fiscal year (July 1-June 30), will focus on sharing what we have accomplished in the last year. Come join us to share our hopes and plans for the future!

We started up having virtual monthly meetings in May. The Executive Board had been using Zoom to hold meetings, so that officers didn't have to commute to WLA. Initially, we kept to the 40 minute free Zoom account. When we started having monthly meetings, we purchased a version so we wouldn't be limited by time. I'm sure you can understand how chaotic it would be to have people reconnect to Zoom every 40 minutes.  

At meetings, we have covered Carnelians, Eye Beads, and had guest speakers-- Eldonna Lewis Fernandez of Baskets Beads Kenya, a virtual tour of Tiki Barbeau's studio on dichroic glass, Will Minter of Beadographer, and Matthew Brody of Tiger Tiger about Pyu, Chin and dZi beads. We had a fun holiday party with bingo cards and bead identification. We had sharing sessions of Non-Jewelry Bead Art!, crystals and dolls! 

We launched the new website last summer. The above picture is from our home page! 

We also offered classes by members, Renée Raymond on Smart Phone Jewelry Photography: Tips & Techniques for Success and Lillian Todaro on Beginning Wire Bending Jewelry Making.  Renée is teaching again in early June with the Arezzo Cuff Bracelet class!

We also started up a Beading Circle in January. Members come and share tips, tricks and information of interest to other bead lovers. It meets the third Saturday of the month at 1 pm. 

The Bead Society Business meeting is at 6:30 pm, same Zoom info, all are welcome!
