Learn all about the common metals used in jewelry making. Halstead Jewelry Supplies in-house Jewelry Instructor, Sylvie Alusitz, will break down the chemical makeup of the most popular metals, including silver, gold, and gold-filled. She will also walk you through their working properties and what to look for when selecting your materials. Beading requires specialized findings, or components, unique to its needs. We'll cover the most commonly used findings and how to incorporate them into your beaded designs. Remember, this is not our usual meeting time! Join us at 3:30 pm Pacific Time, April 6th! The Bead Society is hosting another Pop Up Event on April 30, 2022 from 10 am to 4 pm at the Veterans Memorial Complex, Rotunda Room, Culver City. This Pop Up will highlight finished jewelry and gifts. Local Artists will showcase handcrafted jewelry, mixed media art, wearable art, photography, handmade cards, and paintings! Come join us and check out the gifts for your mother's day list or treat yourself! Bring your friends! The Veterans Memorial Complex is located at 4117 Overland Ave in Culver City, Free admission, and free parking is available in the park lots along Culver Blvd. Some metered street parking is also available. Here are some of the artists who will be present on April 30! Come back often, this list of pictures will continue to grow! Adorning purses with beads has a long tradition. Lots of beaded purses are available nowadays. Some of the ones in the picture above are commercially made in China. Come to the meeting to see a wide range of beaded purses and purses with beads! Bring your own to share with us!

February is Black History Month, so what better way to celebrate it than by presenting artists who bring us African American beads, jewelry and other art!
We have gotten together 10 artists to form a panel so to speak. These artists' artwork is in different genres: jewelry, quilting, painting, leather smithing, clothing and one is a consumer of black art! They are interested in sharing their stories and thoughts with The Bead Society. Sylvia Humphrey, our panel moderator, will ask questions of our panelists. The Bead Society Holiday Pop Up took place on Saturday, November 13 at the Veterans Memorial Complex. We had a steady stream of interested people seeking to view the wares of our many different vendors. We had a colorful array of necklaces, art objects, exquisite designed brooches, and pendants. Why Did I Buy That? This sharing session is open to interpretation! Feel free to bring items such as beads that you have collected that you can't remember why you acquired them. You can show beads that you purchased for a particular reason and either didn't wind up using them for that purpose, or forgot about them. Items that you bought that you thought would be useful and were not are also of interest. Do you ever find beads that you didn't remember that you had gotten because it has been so many years.
