Our October Bead Society meeting will be on clay/terracotta jewelry with Chumki De Sarkar, a jewelry designer, healthcare professional and a small business owner. She is also the current secretary of the Bead Society of Orange County,
The meeting will be Tuesday, Oct 13th via Zoom: October 13th, 7 pm Pacific Time Meeting ID: 899 883 2615 Passcode: Beads Here is some background information from our speaker, Chumki De Sarkar: "Whenever I have travelled around the world and visited a new land, I have always picked up a piece of jewelry. Whenever I would wear them, it would bring back happy memories. Every piece of jewelry tells a story, a bit of origin, culture and uniqueness of the place of origin. With that in mind, I launched my passion project – Lustre – to bring the story to you. Lustre specializes in sustainable jewelry- especially terracotta, which is one of the oldest forms of jewelry in the world. The process involves purifying the clay, shaping and designing the wet clay. Once the clay dries completely, the pieces are double fired in a kiln at a very high temperature to give a stone like consistency. When the dry pieces are fired, they take a brick color or even shades of brown and black. Then, the clay is kept for cooling and ready for coloring. The clay is hand-painted with acrylic based color in a myriad of shades. Lustre launched a new collection ‘Indus’--based on the ancient Indus valley civilization at the Los Angeles Fashion Week (LAFW) in March 2025. The designs have been taken from the original artifacts (pottery) that have been found at the archeological excavation sites of Harappa and Mohenjo-daro. You are welcome to attend the ZOOM meeting. The Society's Business meeting begins at 6:30 pm. Join us!
